Our Farmers, Our Dependable Partners in Growth


The 9th annual awards durbar took place on the 17th of Sept.2011 on the premises of Norpalm Gh. Ltd under the theme “Our Farmers, Our Dependable Partners in Growth”. Over 200 farmers and agents who have been selling their fruits to the company were invited to partake in the annual awards durbar. Norpalm Gh Ltd has a total of 4,500ha of oil palm plantation and is part of top 3 biggest oil palm plantation of the country.
 
Yara has granted Norpalm Gh. Ltd with 40 bags of fertilizers for this event: a combination of YaraLiva Nitrabor (15.4%N, 25.6% CaO, 0.3%B) and YaraMila Winner (15.9.20+3S+1.8MgO+0.02Zn+0.02Mn+0.015B).
 
Norpalm Gh. Ltd has been our local precursor using NITRABOR on oil palm. This calcium nitrate product has  been recommended in addition to a tailor made formula supplying other key nutrients like potassium, magnesium and trace elements. NITRABOR has been used on the plantation for the past 3 years and has shown its economic and agronomic efficiencies on the trees.


YaraMila WINNER has been introduced to Norpalm as a complete NPK formula suitable for the smallholders. Indeed, this product offers the right nutrient balance for oil palm - all is in 1 bag, so easier for the smallholders to handle and ensure the right nutrition to their palms.  Some additional 1 kg bags of WINNER where available during the durbar to give the opportunity to all farmers to get access to the product and try it on their farm. Moreover, as an NPK product, WINNER qualifies for the subsidy system and therefore farmers can now feed their crops with the most appropriate NPK grade                                                                                           .
                                                                                                                                                                                  During this event, and as part of our usual technical support to Norpalm, Yara hold a Yara Clinic. This concept gives the chance to farmers to meet our Yara expert and discuss any challenges they meet on their plantation regarding crop nutrition.
 
                                                                                                                                                                   Giving the chance to all farmers to access and afford the best nutrition package is key nowadays especially in the oil palm sector. Indeed, farmers are now tempted to cut down their palm trees and grow rubber because of poor pricing of fruits. Therefore, it is crucial for them to increase their yield and improve the quality of the produce – all this has to be achievable at a competitive cost which means a comprehensive nutrition package - and YaraMila Winner is the solution

 Yara Ghana Ltd is already supporting Norpalm for their main plantation. We are ready to extend/improve our services and collaborate with their outgrowers in order to increase productivity and therefore incomes for the farmers.
